A nice little stream in Grand County, with a snow-covered mountain backdrop. Nothing special. Until you realize this is the Colorado. Yes, that Colorado. A few hundred miles later, it, along with its servant-rivers will have spread out, and carved up great swatches of the desert southwest into mutually exclusive districts.
There was a math problem, very hard to solve, about a line dividing a plane into two. They could have just asked anyone trying to cross the Colorado. When they built Navajo Bridge at Lee's Ferry Crossing, they had to load up a Model A and shuttle it back and forth on cables. The nearest bridges were 150 miles away.
