A Conflict of Visions on Colorado Education

Tuesday night, the defeated Dems gathered to lick their wounds and survey the wreckage of Amendment 66.  Almost universally, they were unwilling to discard the grand vision of universal day care preschool and all-day kindergarten that Amendment 66 had promised, if not sold as.

Yesterday, Joyce Rankin, wife of State Rep. Bob Rankin and a former educator in her own right, published a piece in the Aspen Times with a different view of what comes next.  It echoes the less-expensive, more reform-oriented and choice-supportive portions of SB213, and presents some rationales about why they actually make a difference.

At the moment, it’s hard to see how these visions can be reconciled.  Good luck, Sen. Johnston.
